Tourism in Inca

Make the most out of this weekend by taking a trip to Ica. The city of wine and textiles is located just a few hours outside the capital. It has a diverse history and various tourist attractions that do not go unnoticed by travelers. An escape to Ica is also a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Don’t worry if you’re still not convinced; read more to find out what we consider the five main attractions in this part of the country. These activities are fun for the whole family. We will also recommend the best hotels to stay at while visiting Ica.

Ica’s Municipal Palace

When visiting Ica’s Municipal Palace, you will observe the architectural style that was characteristic of the Republican era. On the second floor you can visit the Palace Hall, which has extraordinary sculptures of the seasons in high-relief and wood. In addition, the palace is known to house a canvas that depicts an image during the proclamation for independence in our country.

The Cathedral of Ica

The Cathedral of Ica is still one of the main tourist attractions in the city despite the damage caused during the 2007 earthquake. This temple has a great historical richness because the Jesuits built it before leaving the country. Here you can see two architectural styles: baroque and neoclassical

Huacachina Lagoon

You will be amazed with the Huacachina Lagoon, which is one of the most beautiful places on our coast. The oasis is located in the middle of the coastal desert of the Pacific and has carob trees, palms and eucalyptus trees growing in the middle of a sandy desert. It is also a favorite destination for migratory birds, such as the huarango. Here you can take pleasant boat rides on the lagoon.

Paracas National Reserve

For 43 years, the Paracas National Reserve has preserved the ecosystem of the Ica desert, which has incredible flora and fauna. Here you can see tendrils, Andean flamingos, seagulls, brown pelicans, Peruvian diving petrels, Franklin’s gulls, red necked buzzards, condors, etc. This reserve also protects areas formerly inhabited by the ancient settlers of the Paracas Culture.

Adolfo Bermudez Jenkins Regional Museum

The Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins Regional Museum houses archaeological pieces from the Nazca, Wari, and Chincha cultures. A collection of blankets and mummies from the Paracas culture is on exhibit here. The museum also has an anthropology room where cranial deformations and trepanations are explained. In addition, the museum has a 1/500 scale model of the Nazca lines.
